Poster Contest

This year we have decided to run the poster and political cartoon contest once more in connection with UNYMUN. This will allow students to explore the methods used in the public education they so often recommend in resolutions.

Thank you for considering entry to the UNYMUN Poster and Political Cartoon Contest! Now is your chance to explore the process of educating the public, something that is often recommended in resolutions.

Instructions:

  • You should choose one of the Millennium Development Goals to promote in a poster or a political cartoon. (http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/)
  • Entries should be directed to an audience in any region you think should be receiving the message. If you think the country you are playing should be informed, then you many target that country.
  • Cartoons should be made from the viewpoint of someone employed as a cartoonist. Posters may be made as though you are a government, a fictional NGO (which may be modeled after those that do exist), or the UN itself.
  • The pieces should reflect the culture to which they are targeted. However, all posters and cartoons should be in English.
  • Posters should be the size of standard poster board, and political cartoons should be the standard size seen in newspapers and magazines.
  • There is no limit to the amount of people allowed to work on each entry.
  • Each person may only enter one poster and one political cartoon.

Judging:

  • Entries will be judged by the advisers during the day at UNYMUN.
  • Judges will be instructed to look for things such as cultural context, effectiveness, creativity, and appearance.
  • Cartoons will only be considered against other cartoons, and posters only against other posters.

All entries will be displayed at the closing ceremonies. It is possible that the cartoons will be projected on a screen, and the posters will be up outside the auditorium. There will be a prize awarded to one cartoon and one poster. When the conference is over, you may bring home your pieces.
